I grew up in Toms River in the 60's and lived there until 1971. I had no idea that TR was such a drug hub. Interesting book. Brought back many memories of places I hung out in Toms River and at the beach. The only problem that I saw was so many grammatical errors. Words missing and such. I would get a good proofreader for the sequel. Great job Gene. Looking forward to the next book.

I had to put a bucket under my copy of "Right Under Your Nose" cause every page was dripping with verisimilitude.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Riveting Retrospective, January 9, 2014 By flgaiter

This review is from: Right Under Your Nose: Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll (Perfect Paperback) Right Under Your Nose is an iconic look at the American cultural chaos of the late sixties from the social, political, and environmental view of Baby Boomers caught in a zeitgeist. Gene Brignola vividly and realistically presents this stream of consciousness letter from a college drop-out who dropped in, to a life of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. The book is a fast-paced, and exciting ride from Toms River, NJ to New York City and across the continent. Surprisingly, considering the title, this book presents a more favorable picture of Toms River, NJ as a small resort community, rather than the site of a murder in the 80's covered in the book Blind Faith, and the site of an ecological disaster of the 90's covered in the book Toms River. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a look at life in the 60's, or to anyone who was there and just can't remember it. The four star rating is because a 20-year old on drugs, doesn't write as clearly as you would expect from an experienced author, making the book a little difficult in places.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gene - Thanks for the memories!!, February 22, 2014 By Linda Copening

An amazing chronicle of the 60's - I lived in Toms River NJ for more than 5 of my most formative years - Amazing town with amazing people. The author brought back so many fond memories - I couldn't put it down!!! Yet, even aside from my ability to relate to so many of the places and people - it was a true stroll down memory lane. The 60's were a time of evolution and revolution - more than just a "coming of age" story - the book reflects the reality of those times and the indisputable impact it had on society as a whole. Great Book - I would recommend it to everyone!!!!

See all my reviews This review is from: Right Under Your Nose: Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll (Perfect Paperback) Being brought up in the area and time this takes place I can easily see the events brought to life in the book. The author obviously either lived this himself or did a great job on the research. Excellent read. Read it over a weekend and look forward to the next book.
